In the world of computer networks, Bridges & Routers play a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient communication between devices. Although both are used to connect different network segments, their functions are quite distinct yet complementary. A Bridge operates at the Data Link Layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model. Its primary job is to divide a large network into smaller segments, reducing traffic and improving performance. Bridges help identify and forward data only to the specific segment where it is needed, preventing unnecessary congestion and enhancing overall network efficiency. On the other hand, a Router works at the Network Layer (Layer 3). It connects multiple networks together and determines the best path for data packets to travel. Routers use IP addresses to send information across different networks, making them essential for internet connectivity.
